The resounding victory of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) affiliated to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi-affiliated in the trade union elections of the Singareni Collieries, was a morale booster not only to the ruling party but also personally to TRS MP from Nizamabad Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

In the results that were declared in the early hours of Friday, the TBGKS has won nine out of the 11 divisions in Singareni coal mines, establishing the supremacy of the TRS in the coal belt. The opposition alliance-sponsored unions AITUC and INTUC could win just two divisions.

It was a matter of prestige for Kavitha, who is the first woman to lead a trade union in one of the biggest coal mines in the country with over 55,000 votes.

The victory would mean the TRS could retain all the 12 assembly seats in six districts and that is big boost to Kavitha. Now, her importance in state politics would go up further.

Indications are that Kavitha would contest the assembly elections next time and gain an important position in the state cabinet. And her brother K T Rama Rao might be sent to Lok Sabha from Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Apparently, KCR has come to the conclusion that KTR has miserably failed as a municipal administration minister to address to the problems of people in Hyderabad during the rainy season and that he is focussing only on high profile meetings in start hotels.
