Finally, after much dilly dallying and repeated denials, YSR Congress party MP from Kurnool Butta Renuka has made up her mind to defect to the Telugu Desam Party.

She is most likely to resign from the YSRC on Monday and join the TDP in a day or two in the presence of TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

There has been a talk that Renuka would be joining the TDP, ever since her husband Neelakantham had joined the ruling party a few months ago.

However, she has been denying the speculations and said she would continue to sail with the YSRC, come what may.

Very recently, Renuka had a meeting with YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at Hyderabad and even then, she said she would remain in the YSRC.

So, what made her change her decision suddenly?

According to sources, Renuka sought a specific assurance from Jagan that she be given the party ticket for Kurnool Lok Sabha seat for the second term in 2019. However, the YSRC chief told her to contest the assembly elections from Yemmiganur constituency and even promised to her take into the cabinet, once he became the chief minister.

This apparently upset Renuka, as Yemmiganur is the stronghold of the TDP and the YSRC has little chances of winning there in 2019. So, she insisted that she would contest the LS elections only.

And she even asked Jagan whether there was any guarantee that the YSRC would come to power in 2019 so that she could become a cabinet minister. This irked Jagan who told her bluntly that if she could continue in the party only if she had faith in him and confidence in the party’s victory in the next elections.

There were also reports that at one stage, Jagan had agreed to retain Renuka for the Lok Sabha seat, provided she bears the entire election expenditure of the MLA candidates of the assembly segments under her constituency. But, she did not react to the proposal positively and decided to quit the party, say the reports.
