\"NagaChief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to induct Naga Babu, brother of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, into his cabinet has sparked controversy among Telugu Desam Party (TDP) cadres. The move has raised eyebrows, particularly among supporters of Nandamuri Balakrishna, a stalwart of the party and a key figure in its history.<\/span><\/p>\n

The inclusion of Naga Babu, a prominent figure in the Kapu community, bypassed the usual caste considerations. However, TDP loyalists are displeased, as they perceive this as a snub to Balakrishna, a longstanding party loyalist and the son of TDP founder Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR).<\/p>\n

Naga Babu has often been critical of the TDP. During the 2019 elections, he released videos targeting Balakrishna and the party, which many supporters found deeply offensive. His criticism included personal and political attacks that left lasting resentment among TDP cadres and Balakrishna\u2019s fans.<\/p>\n

Despite this, Naga Babu is now being prioritized for a cabinet position over Balakrishna, who has been a loyal party worker since the days of NTR. This has led to frustration among the rank and file, who see the decision as both unfair and politically insensitive.<\/p>\n

Balakrishna has been a dedicated supporter of the TDP for decades, actively campaigning and rallying for the party in critical moments. In 2014, he made his political debut, contesting from Hindupur, a seat historically associated with the Nandamuri family. Since then, he has won three consecutive terms, even during the adverse political climate of 2019 when the YSR Congress Party swept most constituencies in Andhra Pradesh.<\/p>\n

Despite his contributions, Balakrishna has never been offered a cabinet position, reportedly due to caste and family-related dynamics within the party. As a member of the influential Kamma community, Balakrishna\u2019s inclusion in the cabinet might have been seen as concentrating power within a single caste and family, as Chandrababu Naidu, his son Lokesh, and another relative already hold key positions.<\/p>\n

TDP supporters argue that while caste dynamics were cited as the reason to exclude Balakrishna from a cabinet position, they seem to have been overlooked in Naga Babu\u2019s case. With two Kapu members already in the Jana Sena\u2019s representation in the cabinet, Naga Babu\u2019s induction adds a third, raising questions about fairness and consistency in decision-making.<\/p>\n

Balakrishna\u2019s fans, who admire his commitment to the party and his illustrious legacy, are particularly aggrieved. They find it hard to reconcile how a man who has repeatedly attacked Balakrishna and the TDP is now being rewarded with a cabinet position.<\/p>\n

The controversy could have far-reaching implications for the TDP. Alienating Balakrishna\u2019s supporters risks internal dissent at a time when the party needs unity to combat its primary political rival, the YSR Congress Party.<\/p>\n
