According to officials, the proposed system would link vehicle registration details with bank accounts or digital payment platforms, allowing traffic fines to be deducted automatically once a violation is recorded. The Chief Minister reportedly raised the idea during a review meeting on traffic management and road safety in Hyderabad, where concerns were expressed over the low recovery rate of pending challans and increasing violations.<\/p>\n

Government sources said the auto-debit proposal is still at a conceptual stage and would require legal vetting, safeguards, and public consultation before implementation. The administration argues that such a system could deter repeat offenders, reduce corruption, and ease the burden on traffic police, who currently rely on manual enforcement and follow-up.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, road safety activists have offered a mixed response. While some welcomed the proposal as a way to instill discipline and accountability among motorists, others cautioned that enforcement reforms should go hand in hand with better road infrastructure, clearer signage, and public awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n

State officials emphasized that no final decision has been taken and said stakeholder consultations would be held before moving forward. The government is also reportedly studying similar systems in other countries and Indian states to assess feasibility and public acceptance.<\/p>\n
