\"\"At last, the Centre has decided to put the proposal to increase the number of assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on the backburner, for the simple reason that it does not help the Bharatiya Janata Party in any way.<\/p>\n

Though there were reports from New Delhi for the last couple of weeks that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given his nod to the proposal for delimitation of the assembly constituencies in Telangana and Andhra, he left the final decision to BJP national president Amit Shah after discussing with the party leaders of both the states.<\/p>\n

After a thorough discussion with the BJP state leaders in Delhi a couple of days ago, Shah decided against increasing\u00a0 the number of assembly seats in AP and Telangana, as they told him there was no use for the party at all.<\/p>\n

While the BJP has little stakes in AP, in Telangana, the party cannot find enough number of suitable candidates to field in the increased number of seats.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven for the present strength of 119 assembly seats and 17 MP seats, the BJP cannot find good number of candidates. The increase in number of seats will only help the rival parties,\u201d the Telangana BJP leaders told Shah.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Telugu Desam Party president and AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu also told the party MPs not to make any fuss about increase in the number of assembly seats.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have asked the Centre about delimitation only because it was mentioned in the AP Reorganisation Act. Let us not treat it as a big issue. For us, increase in number of seats is not at all important in the present scenario,\u201d the TDP chief told his party MPs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
