Amaravati, March 25: Fresh allegations of a lack of transparency in contract allocations for the Amaravati capital region have surfaced, raising concerns about potential irregularities and favoritism. Several opposition leaders and activists have questioned the government’s handling of infrastructure projects, claiming that key contracts were awarded without proper competitive bidding.

Concerns Over Contracting Process

Amaravati, once envisioned as a world-class capital for Andhra Pradesh, has been at the center of political and legal battles since the bifurcation of the state. Critics allege that major infrastructure and real estate contracts were awarded behind closed doors, with little to no public disclosure of the selection criteria.

A senior opposition leader accused the government of bypassing standard procedures, stating, “There is no clear information about how these contracts are being given. The process lacks transparency, and this raises serious doubts about financial mismanagement.”

Alleged Favoritism and Cost Escalation

Reports suggest that some contracts have been awarded at inflated costs, benefiting select firms. Transparency advocates argue that this could lead to significant financial losses for the state and burden taxpayers. “If the projects were allotted through an open and fair tendering process, we could have ensured better quality at a lower cost,” said a public policy expert.

Government’s Defense

Responding to the allegations, government officials dismissed claims of irregularities. They insisted that all contracts were awarded as per legal norms and that the process adhered to established guidelines. A government spokesperson stated, “All necessary approvals have been taken, and due diligence has been followed in awarding contracts.”

Call for Investigation

With growing public concern, opposition parties and civic groups are demanding an independent audit of Amaravati’s contract allocations. Transparency watchdogs have also urged the government to publish all contract details online to ensure accountability.

As the controversy unfolds, all eyes are now on the state authorities to see whether they will take corrective measures or if the matter will escalate further.Read more
