Jagan govt extends partial lockdown till May 31
The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh on Monday announced extension of partial lockdown in the state till the month end, that is May 30, in order to bring down the intensity of Coronavirus.
The partial lockdown, which the state government prefers to call “curfew” for 18 hours a day – from 12 noon to 6 am the following day, will come to end on May 31. The curfew came into effect from May 5.
According to an official release, the chief minister who had a review of the Coronavirus situation in the state a high-level official meeting, said the extension of curfew was essential to get the desired results in containing the Covid-19.
“It has only been 10 days since we imposed the curfew. It should be in force at least for four weeks,” Jagan said.
He directed that the officials take all steps to ensure that the number of Covid-19 positive cases should not go up in the rural areas.
He suggested that the services of village volunteers and ASHA workers and village secretariat mechanism be used effectively to tackle the crisis.
He also instructed that if any children become orphans due to the death of their parents on account Covid-19, the government should take care of such children.
He suggested that a financial scheme be worked out to help such orphans. Some amount could be deposited in their name and the interest accrued there from could be utilised for their needs every month.
