Suspense continues over the exemption sought by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy from attending the trial court proceedings in connection with the alleged disproportionate assets case.
The CBI special court on Friday deferred Jagan’s petition seeking exemption from court proceedings by one more week.
The judge refused to hear the arguments stating that he has to first deal with the quash petitions and then take up the exemption petition.
It does mean, on October 20, too, Jagan has to wait till the court completes hearing on the quash petition of the co-accused in the case.
In the meantime, the CBI also filed a counter to the petition filed by Jagan. The CBI counsel said Jagan was not eligible to seek exemption from attending the court proceedings on the pretext of padayatra, since it would only delay the trial process.
“That is the exact intention of Jagan. He wants to drag the case as long as possible so that the conviction is delayed. In any case, Jagan is attending the court only on one day every week.
How can he seek exemption for the entire week? He can take up the padayatra during the remaining six days,” the CBI argued.
If there is no decision from the CBI court on Jagan’s plea before November 2, he has no option but to attend the court every Friday by discontinuing his padayatra
