During one such interview, he revealed an interesting conversation he had with the newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister, Pawan Kalyan.

When Telugu producers recently met with Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, he suggested adopting a North Indian ticket pricing model for “Kalki 2898 AD,” with prices ranging from ₹1000 to ₹1500 per ticket. However, Aswini Dutt and his team decided to drop this plan, believing it would not be successful in the Telugu states.

Aswini Dutt elaborated that in cities like Mumbai and Delhi, ticket prices can range from ₹1000 to ₹1500, and even exceed ₹2000 in select luxury multiplexes that offer premium experiences and ambiance. However, the situation is quite different in the Telugu states, particularly in Andhra Pradesh. Many theaters in these regions are in poor condition, and audiences are unlikely to pay such high prices for any movie, regardless of the star power or the director involved.

Dutt emphasized that even the most dedicated fans would refrain from visiting theaters if ticket prices were exorbitantly high. The current ticket prices, which are around ₹300, are already pushing audiences towards pirated sites or making them wait for OTT releases. The suggested pricing model of ₹1000 to ₹1500 per ticket is not sustainable, even for the top multiplexes in Hyderabad.

He also pointed out that while Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan has a profound love for cinema, it is crucial to understand that cinema was once the most affordable form of entertainment. While a reasonable increase in ticket prices might be necessary to encourage more producers to invest in big event films, the proposed hike to ₹1000-₹1500 per ticket is excessive and would likely deter audiences, even for high-budget films like “Kalki 2898 AD.”

In conclusion, Aswini Dutt highlighted that while ticket price hikes might be justified for big-budget films, the extreme prices suggested by Pawan Kalyan would drive audiences away from theaters, impacting the overall cinema-going experience in the Telugu states.Read more…
