Defected Vizag MLA quits YSRC in-charge post
YSR Congress party leader and Visakhapatnam (South) MLA Vasupalli Ganesh, who defected from the TDP to the ruling party in September 2020, appears to be preparing grounds to return to the parent party.
On Saturday, Ganesh resigned from the post of YSRC in-charge for Visakhapatnam (South) constituency, stating that he was facing insults in the party. He wrote a letter to this effect to YSRC in-charge of Visakhapatnam district.
He said though he was treated with utmost respect in the Telugu Desam Party, he had joined the YSRC along with his two sons in September 2020, attracted by the welfare schemes of chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Apparently, Ganesh was peeved with the directions from the party high command for putting up a show of strength during the recent visit of Subba Reddy to Viskhapatnam.
“By asking for mobilisation of crowds, my loyalty in the party was tested. This is not correct and it amounts to insulting me and it hurt my pride. Hence, I don’t want to be the in-charge of the constituency,” he said.
The resignation from the post of party in-charge of the constituency would mean Ganesh is not interested in contesting the next elections for the seat on YSR Congress party ticket.
This would definitely amount to indiscipline. Since Ganesh has not formally resigned from the party and taken the YSRC membership, there might not be any suspension or expulsion from the party.
For quite some time, Ganesh has been running a feud with local YSRC leader and Brahmin Corporation chairman Sitamraju Sudhakar, who is claiming to be the YSRC candidate in the next elections. Sudhakar has the backing of YSRC general secretary V Vijay Sai Reddy.
Ganesh has been expressing his dissatisfaction over the undue interference of Sai Reddy and his followers in the party activities in his constituency.
He said the other day that Jagan cannot become the chief minister again, if he depends on the Rajya Sabha members.
“If Jagan has to become the chief minister, he has to ensure that the MLAs have to win. Rajya Sabha members cannot make him the chief minister,” he said and that has apparently angered the high command.
Technically, Ganesh continues to a TDP member. Since he said he was treated well while he was in the TDP, it indicates that he would like to return to the TDP. But whether he would be welcomed into the TDP again is a million-dollar question.
