Assault on police official: YS Sharmila granted bail
The YSR Telangana Party president and sister of the Andhra Pradesh chief minister, YS Sharmila, was granted conditional bail by a local court in Hyderabad.
This comes after she was arrested on Monday for assaulting a police official in Jubilee Hills while attempting to attend a protest.
Following her arrest, Sharmila was produced in court and placed in judicial remand on Monday night. She was subsequently transferred to the Chanchalguda women’s prison in Hyderabad.
Sharmila’s advocate filed a bail petition on Monday night, which was countered by the police on Tuesday morning.
The court heard arguments from both sides and ultimately granted her conditional bail on Tuesday afternoon. It is expected that she will be released from prison later in the evening.
