In a stunning electoral sweep that may redefine India’s political map ahead of 2029, the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies delivered one of their biggest regional victories in recent years—capturing power in West Bengal for the first time, securing a third straight term in Assam, and retaining alliance control in Puducherry.
As party workers celebrated with drums, saffron flags, and fireworks across the country, political analysts called it “Modi-Shah’s eastern masterstroke.”

For the first time since the state’s formation, BJP has emerged as the dominant force in West Bengal, ending the 15-year rule of Mamata Banerjee and her All India Trinamool Congress.
